How to Get Dog Urine Smell Out of Carpet
76How to get dog urine smell out of carpet
How to get dog urine smell out of carpet. Want to know how to get dog urine smell out of carpet? The problem with having a dog is having to clear up after them... even well trained dogs can end up having 'accidents' and some breeds have more problems than that. My own springer spaniel has a problem with his bladder, 'dribbling' (a polite way of putting it) when he gets excited, such as us returning from a trip.
Which meant that I was left hunting an answer for the question “how to get dog urine smell out of carpet”. The problem is there are all sorts of supposed answers available on the Internet, only a few of them work though.
So I've decided to share the 3 methods of getting rid of the smell of dog urine that I discovered DO actually work.
3 Ways to Get Dog Urine Smell Out of Carpet
First Method on How to Get Dog Urine Smell Out of Carpet Areas
For this one you have to check and see if the dog urine is fresh. If it is you need to act straight away by removing the urine from the carper before it soaks and dries in. Use paper towels (cheap and easy to use), blotting (not wiping) and keep going until you get all that you can.
Once you have done that swill water over the area and again blot it until dry. Once you have done this it will have diluted the dog urine enough that your average odour neutraliser will be strong enough to get rid of the dog urine smell from your carpet.
Second Method on How to Get Dog Urine Smell Out of Carpet Areas
Baking soda is key here. If the dog urine has dried in then blot up what you can (if anything) using paper towels. Then shake baking soda over the area. The baking soda will react with the small amount of moisture left and help bring it up, out of the fabric of the carpet.
Give it about half an hour to complete all it's reactions and they get the vacuum cleaner out and vacuum the area. Give it an hour or two and have a sniff, if there is any smell left use a basic odour neutraliser, which should now be strong enough to help with the smell.
Third Method on How to Get Dog Urine Smell Out of Carpet Areas
I find this one to be the most effective, but the hardest work.
Again soak up any liquid that is still there using paper towels. The key to this method is using vinegar to help us get the dog urine to get the smell out of the carpet. You pour it over the area (make sure that you use white household vinegar) and allow 10 minutes for it to soak through the area that the dog has soaked.
Wash with hot water and then dry the area with paper towels. Once you have done that get out a steamer and steam clean the area.
Sometimes this is enough, sometimes I will need to do it a second time (and once three times). But it is the most effective method I found in my search on how to get urince smell out of carpet areas in the home.

Great hub! I used baking soda quite a bit to remove urine and other unpleasant puppy odors out of our carpet when we were potty training our dog Molly. It really works! Thanks for sharing!
