Necklace Tree

Storing of Necklaces

When it comes to jewelry, the storing of them can be problematic, especially when it comes to necklaces. Whilst using a jewelry box is useful for many different types of jewelry, for necklaces it can be a problem, which is why the necklace tree is such a useful item for anyone owning a necklace or 20 (or more)!

Which is why we thought it best that we take a look at how people can store necklaces, and whether a necklace tree is right for them (take a look at our pros and cons below)

Necklace Tree

So what is a necklace tree?

Do you know a mug tree? This is the same concept. A necklace tree is a design that has a central 'trunk' of wood coming out of a base, with branches coming off of it.

The idea is to hang the necklaces from these branches. This removes the problem that you so often find with necklaces stored in jewelry boxes, specifically that the necklaces get tangled up into a knot.

This is especially problem if you have a number of necklaces (and doubly so if they have thin metals as the links), as they can easily get tied around each other. Anyone who has used a jewelry box to store necklaces can understand this!

Making a Necklace Tree

Pros and Cons of Necklace Trees

Obviously necklace trees aren't useful in all circumstances...you're unlikely to want to store your broaches on one for example.

Pros of a Necklace Tree

  • Can easily store necklaces without them getting tangled
  • Affordable (you can often make them yourself, as with the above video)
  • Not much storage space - storing necklaces vertically saves on table space
  • Stylish...providing you choose a stylish one of course!
  • Selection. you can easily see all the necklaces that are on the necklace tree, you don't have to go digging around in a jewelry box to find what you want

Cons of a Necklace Tree

  • Not easy to transport. Jewelry boxes (especially travel jewelry boxes) are easy to stack and won't break when transported
  • Takes up extra space. A jewelry box might be enough, if you are struggling for space then a necklace tree might take up too much.
  • Only really useful for necklaces and the like, you are not going to be able to store items like broaches, hair pins, etc, on a necklace tree

Excellent! Much better than throwing them in a box and trying to untangle them! Voted up, useful.

Exactly! I got my wife one of these after one too many times being handed a knotted mess to untangle!
